The past few days were the kind of days where you look back and say, “Wow, life is really, really good.” My brother bear graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, or WUSTL (woostle) as we like to say. We had quite the weekend (Week? Few days? Idk.) with all of our grandparents and ALL FIVE of the Stritts!! It was truly a W.
My parents and I woke up at the butt crack of dawn for our early flight on Wednesday. We met Nana at the airport in St. Louis, and drove to see Zachary at his apartment! We went out to brunch with Zachary and Gillian. Afterwards, Zachary went to take a nap (senior week….) and my parents, Nana, and I walked to the arch from our hotel! (It was literally across the street!!)
I thought it was quite funny how the sidewalks had little arrows (my first photo) pointing to where the arch was, as if you couldn’t just look up and see for yourself. Oh St. Louis. Anywhoooo… it was pretty cloudy, but very warm and the sun was very, very strong through the clouds. I was in awe with the way it was reflecting off the stainless steel of the arch, even though it was pretty dark all around. It actually started drizzling toward the end!
That evening, we had a cookout at Zachary’s adoptive mother’s house. Robin, who is our grandma Peggy’s best friend, has had Zachary and friends over to her house several times since he’s been in school. She cooks the BEST meals, and is the sweetest, most caring woman! Last year, Zachary had ACL/meniscus surgery in St. Louis, and Robin INSISTED that he and my mom stay at their house while he recovered. How stinkin’ generous is she!?! Wednesday was the first time my dad, Brady (who drove from Indiana after presenting his research that morning!!) and I had met her and we felt like we had known her forever! We simply adore her and her husband.
Thursday morning was the graduation ceremony for the Arts & Sciences college. It was stinkin hot. From our seats, we couldn’t see much (hence the photo of the top of Zach’s cap through the crowd of people.) I was able to walk up to the front and snag some good photos when Zachary crossed the stage, and I even called his name after and that’s when I got the one of him looking right at me :). God bless everyone who sits through college graduation ceremonies. Graduation is truly an amazing thing and awesome to experience but goodness me every one of us was sweating buckets! Poor Zachary was directly in the sun the whole time.
After the ceremony we went back to Robin’s for brunch! I fell asleep on the couch because I didn’t feel very well…and that’s how my week ended. I spent the rest of the night and all day Friday sleeping in the hotel 🙁 . But everyone else went to dinner Thursday night with two of Zachary’s friends and their families! Friday was the ceremony for the whole school, and afterwards he and my parents went to a party at one of his friend’s houses. Friday night we ordered Domino’s (St. Louis pizza stinks) and sat in the hotel lobby eating it.
Zach leaves Monday for a road trip out west with his buddies. Afterwards, he comes HOME TO PA and I am SO excited!!!!!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Peace & blessings!!!!
