Winner Winner Hamburger Dinner

This is, without a doubt, my favorite Whole30 meal.  My mom and I made it the first week of our 30 days, and that was the night I fell in love with eating whole foods.  It’s hard not to feel discouraged when you first start the Whole30.  My oldest brother, Brady, is just starting and he texted my mom yesterday, “It’s really starting to hit me how little I’m allowed to eat.”  Preach it boy!!  You get very anxious and jittery the first week – partly because you are starving your inner Sugar Monster, and partly because you must come to the realization of what foods you are actually able to eat.  See my tips on Whole Food snacking here.

After eating this dinner in that first week, I’m pretty sure I turned to my mom and said, “Oh, okay, I can do this.”  This meal is simple, yet delicious.  The key is the spices – after making this several more times in the past month I’ve perfected the flavors. (In my opinion – and my parents’, but they’ll say nice things about everything I make, right?!)  So it’s time to share and let other people tell me what they think.

What you need:

Burgers (I have yet to try this with turkey burgers, so if you do please let me know!!)

Avocado

Tomato

Sweet Potato Fries (I will refer to these as SPFs)

The process:

Preheat the oven to 425 (or whatever temp your frozen SPFs say), spread the fries on a cookie sheet, and put them in the oven when heated.  This is the longest part of the prep.

On the uncooked burgers, sprinkle garlic salt and paprika.  Cover those babies good.

Cut up the avocados and tomatoes however you prefer, I did slices but I have also cut them into chunks. (Excuse my non-chef-like jargon.)

Over the veggies, sprinkle lime juice, cumin, chili powder, and sea salt.  Be generous!

Cook the burgers.  (My dad cooked them on the grill last night but I have also cooked them in a frying pan.)  We like ours medium-rare for the juices 🙂

That’s it!! When the fries are done you can sprinkle some sea salt on them, but they’re good without salt too as the veggies and burgers are already so flavorful!!

The final key to this meal is eating the avocado and tomato with the burger.  The flavors will explode in your mouth and send you into a state of euphoria.  You heard it here first.

Here’s to healthy and YUMMY food!!
